What is SOUP?
Vallejo SOUP is a reoccurring microgranting event celebrating and empowering community projects in Vallejo. Each SOUP features a potluck at a unique venue in Vallejo, a local artist’s work, community project presentations, lively conversations, and democracy in action as the participants vote to fund their favorite community projects.
How does SOUP Work?
During the event participants learn about four projects ranging from art, urban agriculture, citizen science, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and more. Each presenter has four minutes to share their idea and then answer four questions from the audience.
While sharing the meal participants have the opportunity to discuss which projects they think will most benefit the community before casting their votes. Participants pay-what-they-can to attend and/or bring food to share (If you bring a dish you receive 1 minute to present anything to the community) At the end of the night, we count the ballots and the presenters go home with all of the money raised to carry out their projects. Winners come back to a future SOUP to report their project’s progress.
